In commemoration of Wet Shoes Day posted at 8:27 AM

Dark clouds loomed across the sky and the last ray of sunlight was blocked by a giant cumulonimbus cloud. Panting heavily, I was so tempted to just give up right now and fail my 2.4 which was on the following week, but since he had offered to help me with this, there was no way I could have rejected him, right?

He caught up from behind and gave me a pat on my head, spurring me on for the last round. It must have been his 8th round around the track. That's why I hate boys; they have ridiculously long legs and have good stamina. Times you wished when you were a boy.

I ran on, determined to finish this run. A thunderstorm was imminent, but how long can running one round take? Passing by the starting point, I set off on my last round. It wasn’t long before I felt a raindrop on my face, then another, then another, and then, rain came pouring down in buckets. My view was blurred as rain drops started to ‘gather’ on my spectacles. Taking off my spectacles in frustration, I wiped my face using the back of my hand (which was also terribly wet), although it became slightly drier, it didn’t last for long. The force of the rain drops hitting right down on my eye lids prevented me from opening my eyes, I guess this instant, one could call me a blind bat.

Using the very limited field of vision I had have left, I ran across the field, making my way to the terraces. Just then, raindrops stopped hitting down on me like little pebbles. Looking up, I wasn’t exactly surprised to see the familiar windbreaker sheltering him and I (he had to crouch down since I was a lot shorter than him).

Quickly, we ran up the staircases that lines the sides of the terraces and made our way back to the college section.

While strolling back to the college section, there was an awkward silence between the two of us. Being the caring guy he was, he would have asked if I was fine, but this time, he just walked ahead of me, taking huge strides as we walked along. And suddenly, he entered the gents which were right in front of us, leaving me puzzled and worried at the same time. Was he okay?

After a minute of pacing up and down in front of the toilets, he finally appeared with a drier looking windbreaker. Without even looking at me, he walked towards me quickly and draped the windbreaker across me.

“Zip it up,” he said, clearly embarrassed about something.

Doubt clouded my mind, but I did what I was told. Looking down to fasten the zip together, a blush crept up the nape of my neck as I realised why he had been such an awkward turtle. I was wearing my WHITE P.E shirt. With the wind blowing against my wet skin, I really shouldn’t be feeling so warm but still, how could I have not realised.
He walked on, slower this time though. “Where are we going?” I asked, finally walking side by side with him.

“Locker room,” his answer was short.

The boys’ locker room?! No way I would enter that place.

“Uhh, then I shall head back to my class bench first,” I turned the corner that lead to the route that leads me to the class bench. To my utter surprise, he grabbed my arm and stopped me in my tracks.

“No one’s having training today,”

“Ah, right,” I had forgotten that today was a Tuesday.

Following him silently, we neared the locker room. And before I knew it, I was already standing in the locker room, facing the entrance. Well, which girl wouldn’t feel embarrassed standing in a boys’ only territory. The hinges of his locker door creaked as he opened it to take out whatever he had needed. Amazingly, the room didn’t stink as bad as I had expected, but there was still a lingering stench of sweat in the stale air. I wrinkled my nose slightly and watched the raindrops fall like needles on the outside. What perfect weather for sleeping.

The hinges of the locker door creaked again and my back stiffened. The entrance was right in front of me, so if anything happens, I could just run out… right? Wait, why am I anticipating something to happen in the first place? Blushing terribly, I slapped myself mentally and calmed my nerves down.

His footsteps neared and my heartbeat quickened involuntarily. Nothing’s going to happen, chill girl.

The next moment, something heavy but soft fell on my head. Reaching my hand up to get it down, his hand reached it before I did and he started ruffling my hair vigorously with what was obviously a towel. After a minute or so, he took it off my head and as I was about to turn around, covered my entire head with it. Strong arms went round my waist and pulled me towards him.

I didn’t even care if anyone walked by right now. Because for now, it’s just going to be his heartbeat and me.

THE END <3

P.S. Sorry for the weird ending guys D:
